Who knew teaching art could be this much fun!

What an exciting first week I had at Lutz Prep!  Today was my first full day of specials, and each period went by so fast, I had a lot of fun getting to know all the new kids.  I do have the good fortune to get my own two children on Mondays, so it was a great day.  I shall sleep well tonight.

We started working on Art Portfolios.  Duck Tape is my friend and friend to many.  Have you seen Duck Tape lately?  Macaroni & Cheese, Bacon, Mustaches and much much more.  So much fun.  I will also leave you with some photos of our classroom.  Mrs. Williams and I worked very hard the last month of summer to get a pop of color in our classroom.  I salvaged some palettes (a.k.a skids) from the dumpster to create an awesome portfolio sorter/holder.  Saved us a lot of $$, and no more plastic tubs for storage. Win-Win I tell you.  Please feel free to leave comments on the blog.

Welcome Back to School!

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year.  My name is Lara and I am so excited to be teaching elementary and middle school art this year. I have a fantastically brilliant co-teacher who is going to show me the ropes and hopefully by osmosis, and really hard work, I will be as extraordinary as she is.
This blog will allow our parents to peek into the classroom each week and see what we have been working on in art.  We will start the year off making our Art Portfolios, creating Art Journals for year-long reflection, self-assessments and creating ideas for art projects.  After that, we will journey into Color Theory lessons, learning all about the color wheel and creating a fun masterpiece to "tie" it all together.
More to come, however I do not want to bore my readers.  Stay tuned for lots of photos from our first weeks of school.
